An up coming star – Philipp Plein

12 Jan

Have you seen the preview for the new show “Fashion& Fame” on Pro7? It is about some young designers living together for a couple of weeks, facing all human ups and downs and in the end the best one wins a co-operation with the star designer Philipp Plein. So to speak: he is for Fashion& Fame what Heidi Klum is for Germany´s Next Topmodel.

But who is that guy? And why haven´t we ever heard of him?
Philipp Plein was born in 1978 in Munich where he firstly studied law. He had the first design experiences creating exclusive furniture for family members in the late 1990s. The first street-wear collection and the opening of his first club P1 in Munich (yes, he really is P1´s owner) followed.
His prominence in the fashion world arose from a Heavy- Metal collection he designed for Germany´s Next Topmodel in 2008. He even designed a “Philipp- Plein- Barbie” for her 50th birthday 2 years ago. Plein runs his own label “Philipp Plein” based in Switzerland which is considered an exclusive luxury lifestyle brand worldwide. He designs fashion for women, men, children, luggage, jewelery, furniture also for the garden and even fashion for dogs.

I spent some time checking his online shop and there were thousands of pieces which I would love to wear but I quickly found out why we have not heard of that label: a jeans is about 1000€, cheap ballerinas start at 300€, a small clutch bag at 800€…

But I am sure that we will know him much better soon and he will be much more popular when the new show Fashion& Fame starts Thursday 20th, 20.15 on Pro7. It might be similar to GNTP with designers instead of models but I personally hope that it focuses much more on the fashion part ant not on the personal conflicts the candidates have with each other. I will give you more info about the show soon 😉

A lot of new and intersting information, you’re providing in your post! I knew Philipp Plein before, because of GNTM of course and I knew someone a few years ago, who really liked and wore his collections. Definitely he got a lot more fame through Heidi Klum’s show, but I didn’t know he is the owner of P1 club and that he is going to present the new designer show.
I think I will really watch or even try and hope as well that this won’t be like people fighting each other for totally unimportant stuff 🙂 but I guess this is quite unprobable since Pro7 is going to broadcast this show!
Anyway nice post, hope to hear more about young and up-coming designers!

Thanks for the great post Lisa! Like Nadine, I also knew him because of GNTM, and I definitely remeber his fashion show because Gina Lisa was wearing a super short “skirt”: http://www.maedchen.de/imgs/905403_116b82432b.jpg
How come you chose him as upcoming star? because of the new show on Pro 7? And do you think his sales will increase because of the show?

I actually watched the first episode of the show last thursday! It was funny and entertaining, but you don’t see that much how they create their fashionable pieces, it’s like we have expected more about the candidates how they live together and have their special arguments with each other, but I think I will continue watching it anyway 🙂

Thank you for the post Lisa because I haven’t heard of him yet!And I have watched the show as well. I have to say though that some of the candidates have a totally different style than Philipp Plein expects. So mabye in you next posts you could introduce the candidates to us in terms of their past and experience they have made so far in fashion industry or show us their different styles?
